Blue Blubber Jellyfish are some of the most common species of jellyfish which can be kept as pets.
These blue blubber jellyfish (Catostylus mosaicus) have some of the most distinctive shapes, with a dome shaped bell and eight arms which provide an almost-cauliflower appearance.
While the colour blue is in their name, their popularity actually comes from the wide variety of colours that are available. Typical colours range from light blues, dark purples and even burgundy. White and brown coloured blubber jellyfish are also available – it is thought that the colour of the jellyfish depends on the type of symbiotic algae which live inside their bodies.
Their eight arms offer excellent rhythmic propulsion and they are therefore strong, active swimmers, always offering plenty to watch inside the tank.

Caring for Blue Blubber Jellyfish
They are strong and active swimmers, and are temperate water jellyfish. Blue Blubber Jellyfish will need feeding with baby brine shrimp, frozen baby brine shrimp, Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine, or frozen copepods, for about 1-2 times a day. You can pick up most of these from your local aquatic shop. You can also top up Blue Blubber’s feeding with our own Medusa Jellyfish Food.
Blue Blubbers have a life span of up to 1 Year in captivity, preferring medium to fast water flow.
As they are strong swimmers, your aquarium should be on a relatively high water flow speed to prevent them hitting the sides of the tank.
