Some of the prettiest and most easily recognisable species of jellyfish, Spotted Lagoon Jellyfish come in a variety of colours, from blues and greens, to pinks, oranges and yellows.

Their semi translucent bodies are splattered with the pretty white spots which give them their name.

In the wild, Spotted Lagoon Jellyfish (Mastigias Papua) are found in quiet areas such as natural harbours and bays typically in the South Pacific.

Spotted Lagoons rely on the photosynthesis of symbiotic algae to gain their energy, and so tanks must be fitted with full spectrum lighting – thankfully, our Cubic range of tanks come with this as standard.

With eight ‘arms’ hanging, and with energetic movement, Spotted Lagoon jellies are some of the most popular to keep as pets due to their almost-cute appearance and constant energy.

Spotted Lagoon Jellyfish Size Guide

Our Jellyfish are sold at a young age, therefore offering you the maximum possible lifespan for your fish. We provide a mixture of sizes with our orders, there is no need to choose size. These are:

• ‘Juvenile’ size (roughly 2.5cm (1 inch) in diameter)
• ‘Small’ size (roughly 8cm (3 inches) in diameter).

We do not stock larger size Jellyfish, but be aware that your fish will of course grow in their lifetime.

Caring for Spotted Lagoon Jellyfish

Spotted Lagoon Jellyfish can obtain all of the nutrients they require for a healthy diet with our own Medusa Jellyfish Food – one bag provides up to 12 weeks of feeding, so it’s quite cost effective! We recommend to feed your Spotted Lagoon Jellies with Baby Brine Shrimp (you can get this cheaply from most aquatic shops), alongside our Medusa Jellyfish Food.

They require feeding 1-2 times a day, and prefer a jellyfish tank with a moderate water flow setup, so their casual swimming can be accounted for.

Photosynthesis – Spotted Lagoon Jellyfish gain their energy from photosynthesis, and so require the white light of your tank to be turned on for roughly 6 hours per day. This can be overnight if you wish, or while you’re at work!
